Scalp Micropigmentation FAQs
Answers to the questions clients ask most often at our Jacksonville studio. Every treatment page carries its own FAQ section too - see scalp micropigmentation, beard micropigmentation, scalp scar camouflage and SMP touch-ups. There are separate pages on SMP for women, hairline SMP and SMP for thinning hair, and on how to choose an SMP artist.
+Is it painful?
On a scale of 10, the pain is 2 to 3. It is consistently less painful than traditional tattoos.
+ How many sessions must be performed for optimal results?
Most SMP treatment plans are completed over multiple sessions. The exact number, appointment length and spacing depend on the treatment area, skin response and the plan confirmed during your consultation.
+ What is the duration of the treatment?
Micropigmentation is a permanent treatment . After the treatment is complete the client should expect the color to stay strong for many years. In the longer term, the client will very gradually begin to notice a slight lightening (not discoloration) of the treatment.
When this happens, it may undergo a brief "touch-up" session to restore any discoloration and maintain its style for many years to come.
+ Will the treatment fade over time (like a tattoo)?
No. Micro scalp pigmentation is a form of permanent cosmetic, but unlike tattoo ink, the pigment is designed to fall in the same color spectrum as hair cut short. Micro scalp pigmentation also uses different equipment than traditional tattooing, which ensures that the needle and machine are designed specifically for micro scalp pigmentation.
+ Is the appearance realistic?
What we bring to you is incredibly authentic and realistic. If you don't tell them, they won't have a clue. In fact, it makes a bald person look younger. We reproduce the density and color of hair follicles. The difference is almost impossible to spot with the naked eye. Check out our photo gallery on Instagram @Thesmpfactory
+ What type of ink are used during processing?
Our ink is organic and specially made for this treatment. There are no side effects, it is actually safer than a traditional tattoo.
+ Do you offer a different look?
Of course, the choice of style is up to you as much in terms of density as in terms of hairline; strong (hair salon), medium or soft (very natural shaved look).
+ Is this treatment possible for people with skin problems or dry skin?
If you have a skin problem or eczema, we recommend that you bring a doctor's note that it is possible to take skimmed milk powder. If the artist notices that your scalp is dry, he will recommend a moisturizing regimen, which will take place a week before your procedure. Dry skin is not a problem.
+ How much does this treatment cost?
Scalp micropigmentation at The SMP Factory generally costs from $500 to $5,000, depending on the size of the treatment area, the density needed and the type of work being assessed. Payment plans are available through Cherry, subject to approval. Visit our Payment Plans page for current details or request a free consultation for an individual quote.
